Over the toilet storage is something to be considered if you need more storage space in the bathroom, but little spare space to utilize. In fact, even if you have loads of space in the bathroom, having over toilet storage can still be a good idea, as it can enhance the décor and help to relieve the toilet itself from being an unattractive focal point.
If you want an over the toilet cabinet, you have several options before you get down to choosing an actual product. Firstly, do you want an over the toilet unit that is freestanding, with legs that stand astride the toilet itself? Secondly, do you want a wall mounted toilet cabinet that you just fix to the wall above the toilet? Thirdly, do you want a toilet cabinet that includes additional shelves?
Once you have chosen from those types of over toilet unit, the next hurdle is deciding on the material from which the furniture should be made. From there you can select the product.
To many people, over toilet storage means a bathroom space saver or etagere, with both cabinet and shelves. These types of over toilet furniture are very convenient, and once assembled, if self assembly is necessary, are easy to position astride the toilet, with no fixing to the wall necessary. A nice example, for those with a white bathroom, is an Elite Home Fashions Dawson Space Saver Bathroom Cabinet. From Elite’s Dawson collection, this unit costs about $125 and is made from MDF, but you can find similar spacesavers both below $100 and above $200, depending on the quality.
You will find most over the toilet cabinets are made from wood, either MDF or other wood composite, or solid oak, cherry and other solid woods. Bamboo and wicker are also quite popular and are easy to find bathroom accessories for. If your bathroom has a shiny, modern chrome or stainless steel theme, then cabinets are unlikely to be available, but some over toilet storage units do combine chrome racking and shelves with a wood veneer cabinet, and these can look quite effective.
